The Europe Direct Information Centre of Komotini provides the latest information on European issues . It also contributes by organizing and participating in activities and actions related to the European Union.

Europe Direct Komotini has replaced INFO POINT EUROPE Komotini which was established in July 1996 and operates under the auspices of the European Commission.

The host stucture of the Centre is Rhodope Development Agency S.A. and is supported by the Region of Eastern Macedonia & Thrace and the Municipality of Komotini.

It is part of a pan-European network of around 450 centres in the 28 Member States, 17 of which are in Greece.

The EUROPE DIRECT network of information centres is one of the European Union’s main tools for informing European citizens about the EU, in particular with regard to its citizens’ rights and enhancing citizen participation at local and regional level in EU policies. It provides citizens of Rhodope but also of the entire REMTh, services tailored to local and regional needs, through which the public can obtain information, advice, assistance and answers to EU questions, the legislation, policies, programs and current funding opportunities. The mission of the EUROPE DIRECT Information Centres is informative, but with the aim of promoting active citizenship.

The purpose of the EUROPE DIRECT Information Centres is to provide channels of communication with all the Union’s institutions, as well as to support and complement the work of European Commission Representations and European Parliament Liaison Offices in Member States locally and regionally. They are part of the EU Directorate-General for Communication and under the coordination and supervision of the Representation of the European Commission in each Member State.
